resort banquet is an ongoing feminist decolonial reading group doing experimental research on nurture and nourishment - Our ceremonious banquet gatherings are anchored in the territory and co-created amongst participants. This activity is a part of the resort internal program.2026
We just closed another cycle of our banquet reading group with the text Belonging - A Culture of Place by Bell Hooks. We sat with the chapter on lavarang, the porch: A Place Where the Soul Can Rest.
This cycle allowed us to discuss and reflect on public spaces as spaces of patriarchal dominance and question ways in which to appropriate safe scenes and spaces of rest. We also connected with researcher Kawthar Jeewa and her research that reinterprets colonial architecture and memory through decolonial lenses.
As a way to honour the text we turned towards enacting forms of rest as resistance; looking towards nourishment of the self and the community as a whole by intentionally meeting up with the soul purpose of leisure, rest and being.

Braiding Sweetplates

We started the year paying tribute to an extract of Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. We toyed with this text for months and we let our real life necessities and circumstances weave themselves into our reflections - all culminating into a knowledge, tool & resource sharing Lab day.
Our Lab day consisted of coming together to workshop edible plate making, it was accompanied by a permaculture crash course with Victoria Desvaux as well as a practical and personal take on a permablitz; we exchanged plants, seeds, cuttings and spent time doing some collective gardening in Karen Pang’s backyard in Quatre Bornes.
